Melody Smith

Melody Smith is a Clinic Administrator for a Family Medicine Residency program that provides access to healthcare to the underserved population (immigrants, refugees, low-income) while training the next generation of doctors. Melody believes everyone deserves the right to access affordable healthcare, no matter their income or immigration status. Melody has worked at Primary Health Care for 9 years where she has moved up in the company from evaluating patients for benefits at the Ames clinic to overseeing her own clinic in Des Moines. Melody’s hard work has been recognized in regards to leading pilots to evaluate different interpreter companies to improve language access to patients, creating workflows and training manuals to create consistency in roles in the organization, and identifying ways to decrease expenses for the organization.

Melody is an Iowa Notary and has earned the Lean Process Improvement Certification through the Iowa Hospital Association.

Melody holds several degrees: a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish from Iowa State University, a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice from Purdue (formerly Kaplan), and a Masters of Public Administration from Upper Iowa University.
